A Six-Pack at My Age – REALLY!?

I know that there are women out there that feel like once you reach a certain age, obtaining muscle mass is absolutely impossible. Such a feat is lost in the abyss along with the ability to effectively pluck the few gray strands growing near my scalp without worry of significant hair loss.  While I may not be able to decrease the number of gray hairs on my head, naturally, I have learned that building muscle and re-sculpting my physique is certainly achievable – without spray tans or surgery! Although, I confess I love spray tans and yes, I have dreamed of having some doctor work his surgical magic to improve my contours. Unfortunately, it’s too expensive for my pocketbook right now…as a starving artist, I mean actress.

Recently, I completed filming for an infomercial for a particular brand of workout. Prior to this experience, I always believed the people on exercise infomercials were simply specialized actors – having won the genetic lottery – sporting rock hard abs and toned tushies, they strolled into work, completed the TV shoot and went on their merry way home. Soooo not the case! I have spent the better part of the last sixty days working out harder than I ever have before – I mean really HARD…. at body building! The cast workouts are actually very similar to what you see on shows like the “The Biggest Loser” or “Boot Camp.” Grueling workout sessions of high intensity, designed to yield stellar results in minimal time – doctor’s approval required. (I suppose I am divulging the secrets of those exercise infomercials, but seriously everyone knows results like those don’t happen overnight.)

This experience taught me several things:

  1. “If it doesn’t kill you it only makes you stronger.”
  2. Actors on exercise infomercials work very hard to achieve those rock-solid results that keep viewers enticed.
  3. (The best part!) At my age – toned, defined abs, arms and legs are totally doable!

I can’t tell you the product I was endorsing, but what I can tell you, is that regardless of your age or stage in life – don’t ever think you can’t achieve some serious results – if you put the effort into it, you will reap some serious rewards! I have “guns” for the first time in my life! (Not the kind you shoot – I mean biceps or upper arms.) You know, the place we cover up when our skin forgets where it’s supposed to be attached? You go girl! You can do it too.

Ok, if there are guys reading this, you probably already know about this body building stuff. Encourage the lady in your life. Offer to be her cheerleader – if she’s ready to make a change for the better. Do all you can to make it easy for her to be successful – I promise that you will reap the rewards! My husband is one happy man as a result of my fitness routines and bioidentical hormone treatments. (Look for the details to those stories in future Pillow Talk posts featured on Fridays.)
