Bioidentical Pellet Therapy was the key to my weight loss success
For the past 25 years I’ve maintained the same weight through diet and regular exercise. Once I started gaining weight, without changing anything about my diet or my work out routine, I knew that something was wrong. The weight gain just kind of happened out of the blue and I gained nearly 12 pounds, mainly in my midsection. It was shocking to wake up one day and find out that my pants didn’t fit anymore. I’ve always tried my best to eat right – eating organic and making it a point to not drink alcohol very often. I generally lead a very ‘clean’ lifestyle. I began trying a variety of weight loss methods and nothing was working – adjusting my work outs, adding more cardio, adding more burst training and things like that to kinda switch it up to see if exercise would make a difference. Nothing was working. And to make matters worse, I was tired all of the time. There were mornings where I couldn’t even get out of bed. I didn’t feel like myself at all.
My friend, who is also a patient of Dr. Landa’s and my personal trainer, recommended that I schedule an appointment to have my hormones evaluated to see if an underlying hormonal imbalance was to blame.
The test results showed that my body wasn’t producing any hormones. I had been using a birth control method that made it so I only had one period 2 or 3 times a year, whenever I chose to have one. Dr. Landa recommended I stop using the birth control because the synthetic hormones were inhibiting the production of my body’s natural hormones. I was deficient in estrogen, progesterone and testosterone and these imbalances were the reason I was feeling so off.
My progesterone was low, as were my estrogen levels, so Dr. Landa started me on a personalized wellness program, consisting of customized nutrition and fitness regimens and bioidentical hormone therapy. I was also diagnosed with adrenal fatigue, so I was prescribed DHEA to balance my cortisol levels and stabilize the adrenals.
I was starting to feel a little better and then I started waking up in the middle of the night with hot flashes. I was sure that this too was a symptom of hormonal imbalance. Dr. Landa tweaked my dosage and then prescribed something for me that helps cool the body down so I could start sleeping through the night. She also helped me rebuild muscle mass with testosterone supplementation.
Within the first couple of weeks, I noticed a huge difference; it was like night and day. My libido was off the hook; my energy was back to when I was 18. Now I jump out of bed and I go non-stop until I hit the bed again and go to sleep. This is the first time in 12 years that I am able to sleep through the night, without interruption. It’s so nice not to wake up 2-3 times a night to roll over or because I was too hot.
For me, the experience has been life changing. I feel like I’m alive again. It’s funny because you don’t notice the decline; you really don’t notice until one day you wake up and go… “God something’s wrong.” It’s such a gradual process that when you wake back up again it really is like flipping on a light switch – you could look back and go… oh that’s what was wrong… Oh my goodness, that’s why I couldn’t get up! It all starts to make sense.
