I know the value of make-up – and I am certain that some of you would agree – it is a god-send! Make-up is not everyone’s cup of tea, but I love it! No matter how I old I get, I will never stop enjoying “playing” with make-up (I’m a beauty consultant too!) For me, it’s a little bit vanity (ok, probably a lot of vanity) as well as a little bit fear of what people might think if they saw me without it, but I also consider it an art form. Think about it – a little black eyeliner can totally take your demure look to smoldering or swiping on red lipstick will dress you up in a heartbeat. Make-up gives every woman the chance to paint her very own canvas any way she wants!
That being said, you should know that my face has not seen the light of day without makeup since my mother told me I needed more “color” at the ripe age of 12. The first time I had to go on an audition to HSN (Home Shopping Network) it was with absolutely no makeup! This is what you do at a “model call”-it’s all about the “before” and “after” shots. Walking in the door, I felt so self-conscious, but my worst fears were abated when I entered the room where everyone was gathering. There, looking as sheepish and uncomfortable as I did, were about twenty other women – barefaced and stripped of their make-up – hoping the “after” portion of the photo shoot would begin soon! ‘’
There was an interesting dynamic in the room that day and every time I’ve gone for “model call” since. Everyone is on an even playing field. No one is prettier that anyone else. It was just a bunch of women really being themselves…with unmasked faces. I couldn’t help but wonder what our world would be like if we all could accept each other as we are, nothing more. What a simple, refreshing thought.
