It’s official…I am a glutton, or rather a “gluten” for punishment!
Back in September, right around the time I started taking the Probiotics, I also gave up gluten. As mentioned in my last post, within 3 days I felt a huge difference. I won’t repeat the dirty details of the positive results I experienced but I will admit that I gave all the credit to the Ultra Flora Plus I had started taking.
Turns out it is not all about the bacteria! I know this because I have been on the road again for a couple of weeks, and while it is very easy to eat gluten free when at home, I found it more challenging on the road. Not that gluten free foods aren’t available in restaurants…it’s just that there are so many choices on the evil menus that I found myself cheating more and more each day.
One thing I don’t think that I’ve mentioned is that I am in the restaurant business. Basically I travel all over the country opening restaurants, so while I could easily have the Chef make me a healthy, gluten free veggie egg omelet I found myself reaching for the homemade cinnamon roll instead! At first it only happened at breakfast, but within a couple days the baked pasta was looking too good to pass up. And finally, in the end, instead of the having a nice glass (or 3) of red wine with dinner I was going for the cold pint of Arrogant Bastard instead!!! (That is a beer by the way, not the evil server tempting me with his gluten-filled loaf of freshly baked sourdough bread!!!)
The results of my wicked ways??? I am once again experiencing the effects that I spoke about in my last blog…although…not quite as severe.
So, as Paul says in Romans 7:15 “I don’t really understand myself, for I want to do what is right, but I don’t do it. Instead, I do what I hate.” I guess my next step is to figure out why it is so hard for me to give up the things that I know are not good for me, and do the things that I know are beneficial. This is the journey for me…and I am happy that I have you all to talk to about this.
Thanks for listening J
