Time for “The Talk”?

Women don’t seem to like to talk about perimenopause and menopause very much. It’s like it’s some kind of taboo or something. I really don’t get why, though. I mean, it’s something pretty much every woman goes through, and it’s far from easy. I got “the talk” from my mom before I first started my period. How come I didn’t get “the talk” before my periods started going away?

Yeah, I know: my periods aren’t gone, yet. They’re erratic and come and go as they please, though. It can be scary. I wish my mom would be there for me more and hold my hand as I go through this. I mean, she’s already had her turn on the Peri-go-Round. Why not warn me about it? 🙁

But it’s not all complaints. My mom may not want to talk about it, but I’ve met lots of super-supportive women who have held out a hand to help guide me on this scary journey. I thank each and every one of you amazing Maniacs for all the help you’ve given me!

But I think there’s still lots more that can be done. So many women are going into perimenopause with no idea what’s in store for them. I think we, as a people, are opening up on the subject, but we need to open up a lot more.

Don’t be afraid to share your stories! And, for those ladies who are stumbling upon this crazy road: don’t be afraid to ask for help!

Jessica out 🙂
